Honoring the Legacy of Dr. John R. Mosby

Dr MosbyOn May 4, 2026, Highline College lost a beloved educator, visionary leader, and unwavering advocate for equity, Dr. John R. Mosby. Serving as President of Highline College from 2018 to 2025, Dr. Mosby guided the institution through both periods of growth and moments of challenge with integrity, compassion, and purpose. Throughout his presidency, he remained steadfast in his commitment to advancing equity, expanding opportunity, and fostering a strong sense of community across campus.

Dr. Mosby possessed a rare gift for connection. He made every individual feel valued, heard, and important, often leaving people with the feeling that they were his closest friend. His ability to lead with both warmth and authority made him an exceptional president whose impact will be felt for a long time to come.

One of Dr. Mosby's most enduring contributions was his vision of embedding equity into the very fabric of Highline College. To further that vision, he established the Division of Equity, Diversity and Transformation (EDT) in 2022. In 2023, he appointed the division's inaugural Vice President, Dra. Maribel Jimenez, helping to lay the foundation for transformative and lasting institutional change.

In the months following his passing, college leadership and the campus community reflected on meaningful ways to honor Dr. Mosby's legacy. To recognize his profound influence and lifelong dedication to equity, the new EDT office has been dedicated in his memory.

On October 14, 2026, Highline College will gather to celebrate the life and legacy of Dr. Mosby and formally dedicate the space as the Dr. John R. Mosby Center for Equity, Diversity and Transformation. This dedication serves as a lasting tribute to his vision, leadership, and unwavering belief that equity should be central to the mission and future of Highline College.
