Hugo Puerto

Raised in the ancestral territories of the Muísca Confederacy of Bacatá (Bogotá, Colombia), Dr. Hugo Puerto is now honored to live and work on the territories of the Coast Salish peoples, a relationship he holds with deep respect and commitment. Dr. Puerto holds an MPH in Global Health and a Ph.D. in Sociocultural Anthropology from the University of Washington. His work weaves together community-based research, health equity advocacy, and diverse ways of knowing. He collaborated with farmworker communities in Florida and Indigenous communities in Colombia on community driven projects and has consulted for the CDC on COVID-19's impact. He serves on the Community Health Board Coalition and the Community Contract Working Group, pushing for equitable health policy and fairer systems for Community Based Organizations in King County. At the heart of his facilitation of knowledge is a simple but powerful belief: that care, knowledge, and healing are richer when many voices shape them.
